Head Start promotes school readiness for children, ages three to five, in low-income families by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children. Like Head Start, Early Head Start provides support for low-income families but the focus is on infants, toddlers, pregnant women and their families. Early Head Start programs enhance children’s physical, social, emotional and intellectual development and assist pregnant women to access comprehensive prenatal and postpartum care.
