Center-Based Care Two-Star

Child care centers must complete all standars for Level 1 and Level 2

Administrator Requirements

Accrues at least 135 clock hours of education and/or training in child development/early education and administration including family support and involvement.

Completes 20 clock hours or more per year of training on administration and child development/early education.

 

Staff Requirements

Accrues 15-30 clock hours or more of education ad/or training in child development/early education.

Completes 20 clock hours or more of additional training each year.

Completes training on the topics listed below:

  • Using children’s learning goals to plan daily activities
  • Using nationally recognized tools to measure the quality of the classroom environment
  • Nutrition for children (for kitchen manager and administrator)

Follows written daily plans that include all areas of development.

  • Each day’s activities support the child’s intellectual development, social and emotional development and physical development.

Provides daily physical activities that are appropriate for the ages of the children.

Facility Requirements

Works with a certified assessor to review the facility’s administrative quality.

Meets or exceeds the designated score on a rating of classroom quality.

Provides at least two interest centers in each classroom.

  • Interest centers focus on a particular type of play and learning, such as blocks, art, books or pretend play.

Shares information about medical homes for children.

  • A medical home means that a child has one doctor or clinic and one dentist whom he sees regularly. Medical homes ensure that the child’s medical records are kept in a central location so that the child can receive the best care available.
